The Nurturers was inspired by a conversation between Sydnee and me, as we worked on the installation piece where we took her photographs for "Comfort Bound". My partner is the one I go to no matter what is happening, he's there for me in ways no one else is. The James River has become a special place for the two of us to hide away during the heat of the summer months, making it the ideal place to pose for this piece.

We took the reference photo together, with a 10 second timer on his camera. I remained in the water, a pool built out of the moving water by river goers before us, as he scrambled over the rocks again and again, until we got the final shot.
