For “Comfort Bound”, I wanted to share my own experience of each of the relationships represented in our collaboration through a series of images that told a story individually and collectively. The time spent building the set for Sydnee’s photographs informed my concept of carving and printing all six images from a single block. Once each circle is removed from the singular block print, it speaks on its own, allowing the viewer to interpret each print as its own statement in conversation with its photograph counterpart.
My aim was to invoke a feeling rather than a direct association to either the photographs or the named relationship when the prints were presented as individual rounds. Contrasting the ethereal figures in each of Sydnee’s photographs with the black and white lines of the relief prints resonates with the way relationships are defined by individuals concretely and ambiguously.
